Bangalore Rains

Bangalore Rains

When it rains in Bangalore, severely challenged is the city's wannabe image as a world city. Coz world cities dont collapse under water. Of course, New Orleans did. But that was due to Katrina, and not a simpleton rain like Bangalore's. Moreover, New Orleans is hardly a world city, even if it is an American city. A recent visitor to that place called it a ghost town. So much for America's speed of renovation...

Technologistics!

To explore has always been man's voracious dream. Since the beginning of mankind, this adventurous streak lay within him, unleashing its often reckless energy whenever chance came by. That has continued over generations, over millennia. The Geographical Position System is a tribute to that yearning to explore, and more importantly, to keep track of that exploration. Adventure revisited is akin to a life lived again, in mini capsules of time. It's often refreshing, the nostalgic strain pepping up that relook. Today's technology, it's getting increasingly clear, is seamlessly integrated to that zeal of travel.

Finally...

It all boils down to where you take your body for an outing. On a hot sunny day, you tend to harbour thoughts of spending the evening near a water body. And in some landlocked cities like ours, the lake is mostly the best option to get out of the concrete jungle. Now, that's an option one can think of without heading to the nearest sea shore. Isn't it. Well, that's the kind of feeling you get when you have spent a few hours near the lake, your probing eyes well set on the rowing competitors. You let your eyes wander, while your mind goes surfing.

Transformation

Transformation beckons every Bangalore street. So, this change on Church Street shouldn't have really made a big difference. Yet, the difference is stark. For someone who returns after a five year break from the City, Bangalore ought to shock him / her.
Its kind of sweeping, this consumerist overdrive. Brands, they are aplenty on this chic street, changing everyday with a new restaurant. With no Church in sight, the road is bound to be renamed Food Street soon. Or the Gourmet's drive. The change is that stark.

Indian railways is one of the world''s largest organisations. Reason enough, you would think, to upgrade itself consistently to standards closer to world class. But reality leaves you with a bad aftertaste.
One trip by any of the trains would convince anyone about the lack of innovation in its design, passenger comforts, technology and much more.
IR had decades to improve its image, and emerge as a truly world class service. In four decades, the interiors of the compartment has remained more or less unchanged, the cosmetic changes not giving any add on value. This is very apparently a critical reason for the way things are today.

IPL, Big League

Entertainment, thy name is IPL. If someone proclaimed this with finality, you wouldn't actually bother to argue. Coz, thats the kind of hype built around this shortened version of the game across the country. Without ODIs, the five day test matches were on their way to the history books. Now, when people were kinda getting bored with the one-day version, this new format has taken its root in India. Of course, England and Pakistan have begun thinking about similar tourneys in their backyards. But the start here would be tough to emulate.

Traffic is part of every road. After all, what is a road without traffic. Yet since anything that is in overdose is bad, traffic too often gets overboard, the drivers get over bored and the roads get bored by the relentless pressure of vehicles big and small, light and heavy. Its often gets crazy, with pedestrians pressing the panic button when they get caught, say, in the middle of a road. Now, this traffic story is getting a little overboard. So here I press the full stop.

A green house needn't be always linked to the ozone layer up there. You could go green before you go grey so to speak. The grey areas of your mind could be sprinkled with water until the first green tip sprouts out. Then spend the rest of the grey period to nurture the greens, in the fond hope that one day you can close your life chapter at perfect calm. How about that aint it a wonderful way to change colours!

Designing is an art that captures the essence of good aesthetics, an eye for composition, a smartness to capture media in all its multi pronged splendour and verve. Designing is also about taking the picture and styling it for your eyes to behold.

Destiny's Child

Destiny lurked somewhere in the heart of Ooty, the hill station down South. The journey was tiring, but the destination swept away all the hardships of the travel. Invigorating would be an understatement to describe the beauties of that place. Cleverly kept hidden from the outside world and open to only those who know, the place exudes a charm, a rustic play of natural air and man made comforts. Seeing is believing. Destiny is the word.

WorkWISE

Work is worship, goes the old
cliche. Caught in the cycle of life, man balances work with personal life. Some get it right, most don't. Perhaps that's the way things are bound to go, unless people bring office to personal life or vice versa.

Inflation, up up

Inflation, up up
Originally uploaded by Kappan-saucer
Inflation. Thats a bad word in every part of the world. After years of low digit growth, inflation is threatening to rise at a double digit rate. If this continues, we just might be heading for a dip in conspicuous consumption, that is the hallmark of today's generation. It could also spell death to the current coalition at the centre. In the States too. Who says economics and politics arent related...

Bangalore's voter, apathetic or genuine...

So, the voter turnout was poor in Bangalore like most urban centres in
India. But was it only due to public apathy or was there apathy at
all.
Poll pundits had made excuses to offer. Apathy was of course one of
them. But the Election Commission's disciplinarian rules on the code
of conduct apparently tied down the otherwise bombastic campaigns of
the parties involved. The parties promptly blamed the poor turnout on
this. No campaign and thus no awareness. And so few voters knew who
the candidates were, and thus failed to turn up at the polling booth.
But is this simplistic rationale foolproof.
Many experts were not convinced. They cited the average voters
satisfaction with the political arrangements, the relative peace and
calm to support their stand that the EC was right in taking a tough
posture.
Of course, there were others too who completely overturned the voter
turnout debate citing the increased percentage of genuine voters this
time. If 44 per cent turned up to vote, all were genuine and that was
a good thing. If you had to blame something, you had to correct the
widespread disappearance of names from the genuine voters.

Living by the dead

The loss of someone close is often irreparable. Life goes on, but the
memory of the dead lingers on like a sobering, haunting wound that
simply refuses to fade away in a hurry.
Time, as the cliche goes, might be a great healer. But in matters too
personal, the sands of time often forgets its healing job. Perhaps,
the chaotic, often aimless paths of today stands in the way of that
failed forgetfulness. Its tough to be in that cycle. A life built
around memories of the death. Tough but absurdly cathartic. ....

Coffeeistaaaah

Sipping coffee from a branded outlet on Brigades might not exactly be
an idea to unwind, provided of course the company is ennervating.
Now was that outlet downmarket since it was deeply embedded in the
urban maze built off brigades. I wouldnt judge it too harsh. Yet,
compared with its big brother on MGs, it apparently was.

Airport woes revisited

So, the Bengaluru International airport will eventually open on May
we. Or this also a tentative date only to be postponed yet again. Only
time will tell.
The airport was to take flight on March 30 but the unprepared Air
Traffic Control facility and incomeplete equipment forced the first
delay. The hype died young then. Its been a case of today or tomorrow
ever since.
For those wanting to retain the existing airport, it is disappointment
though. The Central government's announcement that the old airport
will close down for commercial operations comes as bad news for all
those campaigning for the retention of the HAL airport.

Out there on the City's mediascape, a savage competition looms large. From mainstream dailies to financial broadsheets, hitherto restrained vernaculars to the masalised tabloids, the scene is crowded, packed, informationooled.
